Intended Outcomes

Personal development is designed to prepare students for a safe, healthy and successful adult life. The year 8 programme builds on what we covered in year 7. 

  • Course Implementation

    Skills, Values and Goals – Tutor time 

    A unit to begin the academic year where students review the Bewdley values as well as start to examine their own personal values before setting some targets for the year ahead. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Healthy Relationship – Tutor time 

    Students will examine the definition of bullying and the different types of bullying, including cyberbullying. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Mental Health and Wellbeing – Tutor time 

    The topic will look at signs that somebody is struggling with their mental health together with unhealthy coping strategies such as self-harm and eating disorders. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    First Aid-Tutor Time 

    We will be examining examples of self-care together with the importance of sleep and healthy eating. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Managing Risks-Tutor time 

    Understanding sexting and the law regarding sending images. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Sex and Contraception – RSE  

    A unit examining the main types of contraception including how to correctly us a condom. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Consent and STIs – RSE 

    A module looking at consent as well we STIs and bodily fluids. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Managing sexual relationships 

    A unit of work looking at sexual harassment and stalking as well as sex in the media, including pornography, body positivity and online grooming. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

    Bouncing Back – Action for Children workshop 

    A 2 x 50-minute workshop all about skills and tools that young people can use to build up their emotional resilience. Student progress is monitored in lessons verbally and through completion of reflective writing.   

Learning Impact

The full impact of our Personal development programme will not be assessable during their time at school but we do use a range of methods to measure the impact of what we are doing where possible, including student voice activities.
