Criminology Year 12 Modules


  • Unit 1 Changing Awareness of crime

    Module content– You will discover how the media impacts and distorts the public’s perception of crime. Real life criminals, case studies and statistics are used to analyse what crime is really like. Often campaigns are used to try and create change in society. In this unit, a selection of campaigns such as Sarah Payne and #Metoo will be studied. You will then get the chance to design your own campaign too!

    Assessment method– Coursework. You will complete this using your notes over 8 hours on a computer. This will take place in December. Your teacher will fully prepare you for this assessment!

  • Unit 2- Criminological Theories

    Module content– You will learn biological, psychological and sociological theories that explain why someone may turn to crime. These theories will be evaluated and then applied to real life criminals such as Dennis Nelson, Jeremy Bamber etc.

    Assessment method– External examination in May. This is a 90-minute paper.

Criminology Year 13 Modules


  • Unit 3 Crime Scene to Courtroom

    Module content– You will discover how a crime scene is processed. After this you will then review real life cases and understand how these offenders were prosecuted. Some of the case studies covered in this unit are Stephen Lawrence, Barry George, Colin Pitchfork etc.

    Assessment method– Coursework. You will complete this using your notes over 8 hours on a computer. This will take place in December. Your teacher will fully prepare you for this assessment!

  • Unit 4- Crime and Punishment

    Module content– You will learn about how we punish offenders. The whole process is explored from how are laws created all the way to how prisons do (and do not!) work.

    Assessment method– External examination in May. This is a 90 minute paper.
