Reading at Bewdley

Our Reading Hub

We have an exciting space for our school library which promotes a balance between relaxation and creativity in the Expression Hub. This space provides an inclusive and safe corner with a bright and peaceful place to read a book on our comfy sofas. Homework and research can be completed using one of 12 PCs. We’ve created a space that celebrates reading in all its forms, including graphic novels and manga. Whatever they choose to do, students can enjoy the views from the floor to ceiling windows or be inspired by the art work on display created by our very own art and textiles students.

The library has been organised to be as effective and easy to use as possible. We have an excellent selection of both fiction and non-fiction books which are colour-coded and clearly labelled to subject and genre. In collaboration with Wyre Forest Books, we ensure that we have an up-to-date range of reading material and the option for students to request the purchase of books.

Between the Covers @Bewdley is our brand-new book club. Join us to: help recommend good books for the library, decide upon Bewdley Book of the Month, help to run the library as library assistant, join in shadowing schemes for various book awards and offer your services as a buddy to anyone who would welcome support with their reading.

At Bewdley we strive to promote reading by encouraging our students to read for pleasure. In addition, students in year 7 and 8 will have a lesson in the library where they can borrow books, read together and gain rewards for reaching reading targets. During Tutor Time all students have a weekly opportunity for reading time where students join their tutor in reading together in class. Teachers are encouraged to display on their classroom doors, the book that they are currently reading.
