We start Year 10 by further developing the students’ skills. Topics covered include: – Coordinates and Linear Graphs, Real Life Graphs, 2D Representation of 3D Shapes, Measures, Transformation Geometry, Pythagoras’ Theorem, Congruence and Similarity, Vectors, and Inequalities. The emphasis is on learning new content and skills as well as on the application of these skills in problem solving situations. There is a topic test at the end of each topic for which the pass mark is 80%.
All Year 10 Students are set a weekly homework. At Foundation Tier this consists of a Dr Frost Maths quiz of 30 questions, 15 on the current week’s work and 15 on checking the understanding of prerequisite concepts for forthcoming topics. All questions have explanatory worked examples attached so if a student has missed lessons/not fully understood the concept being taught, there is an opportunity to redress this. In addition, there is a 30-minute Complete Maths quiz based on the last months’ worth of lessons.
