During this module students learn observational drawing skills with a focus on tone, line and texture. Students learn how to observed, study and analyse forms and use shape and tone to convey 3 dimensional natural objects on a 2 dimensional plane. This allows students the opportunity to visually investigate natural forms that they can then use within their extended project.

Year 7 Art & Design Course Modules
Year 7 The Natural World and Environment: Contextual Research
During this module Students study the work of William Morris. Learning about his successful career and legacy. They learn how to critically analyse and evaluate works of art and develop justified and considered opinions. They explore Morris’s ideas and intentions and explore working in his style in order to inspire their own creative ideas.
Year 7 The Natural World and Environment: Experimentation
During this module students learn how to use and manipulate a variety of materials and techniques in order to experiment with and develop their own ideas, creating links with their artist research and drawings. There is a focus on developing and utilising knowledge of colour theory and pattern within this module.
Students are afforded the opportunity to experience a variety of art and textile processes in order to further their ideas, including: watercolour painting, pencil crayons, inks, fineliners, mono-printing, press printing, embroidery and digital painting.
Year 7 The Natural World and Environment: Final Outcome
During this module students develop a personal final outcome for their project. Final outcomes consolidate the year’s learning with the creation of a piece that links their research, drawing and experimentation. Final pieces range from digital wrapping paper designs to mixed media pieces to constructed textile outcomes.
Year 8 Art & Design Course Modules
Year 8 Identity and Self: Drawing Portraits
During this module students learn how to draw portraits and facial features accurately; They learn the importance of observation and study the rules of proportion in order to create accurate visual representations. Students experiment with self-portraiture and ways of visually communicating ideas about themselves.
Year 8 Identity and Self: Contextual Research
During this module students study the work of portrait artists. They study their careers and bodies of work and learn how to critically analyse and evaluate works of art and develop justified and considered opinions. They explore artists’ ideas and intentions and explore working in their style in order to inspire their own creative ideas.
Year 8 Identity and Self: Experimentation
During this module students learn how to use and manipulate a variety of materials and techniques in order to experiment with and develop their own ideas, creating links with their artist research and drawings. There is a focus on learning how to mix colours and layer paintings considering composition, background and foreground.
Students are afforded the opportunity to experience a variety of art and textile processes in order to further their ideas, including: acrylic and watercolour painting, pencil crayons, inks, fineliners and textiles.
Year 9 Art & Design Course Modules
Edexcel: GCSE Art and Design: Fine Art Year 9 GCSE Foundation – Mini personal project
Students begin with RESEARCHING the work of personally chosen artists and designers, learning to analyse work and use this to inform their ideas (UNDERSTANDING) alongside Observational DRAWING. They then learn and EXPERIMENT with a range of techniques and media and use this to develop creative DESIGN IDEAS (PREPARATION). Projects culminate in the development of a FINAL OUTCOME (PRODUCT).
Edexcel: GCSE Art and Design: Fine Art Year 9 The building blocks of Art – ‘Formal Elements’ and contextual research.
Students begin their GCSE personal portfolios working on personalised projects focusing on knowledge and skills needed for success at GCSE. Students study and learn about the Formal elements of art and how manipulate them creatively in order to convey ideas and emotions. They will look at and experiment with TONE, LINE, FORM, COLOUR, PATTERN, TEXTURE, PROPORTION, PERSPECTIVE, MOVEMENT, SPACE AND COMPOSITION.
