On Thursday 11 April, thirteen Sixth Form students visited Alton Towers for an action-packed day of thrills and knowledge. After an early start students arrived at the park and enjoyed a day full of rides on iconic Alton Towers’ roller coasters and attractions. At the end of the day students attended a lecture, which discussed the complex Physics behind some of the resorts most stunning rides.
Mr Horton said ‘The students conducted themselves phenomenally and were ambassadors to the school as they freely explored the area. Although the day was deeply enjoyable, it was about more than just fun. The engaging talk gave students the opportunity to reinforce their subject knowledge of forces and motion.’
Further to this, it also allowed them to further explore the real world applications of Physics as well as alerting them to possible careers linked to STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
Overall the day was a real joy for students and really helped them understand that Physics isn’t the dry old subjects many believe it to be.
